Well, looks like I'm headed off to this place in Nov/Dec. Anybody know anything about the area, or be able to recommend apts, etc? Appreciate the help.
Congrats. Been there a few times...but mostly calling the "B" on the way into the break.
Check with the family service center (FSC) at NASNI to see if they have a SITES hard copy for China Lake. If you call the FSC and/or housing at china lake, they will most likely send you the sunday paper's classified and a ton of housing gouge via USPS.
Hmmmm .... China Lake. Right up there with Tonopah among my "favorites". Some guys swear by it (or because of it?) so make the best of it ... it used to be a "career-enhancing billet" for shore duty in the A-6 community. These are my two favorite places in the area --- if you squint real hard (the place looks better if you do and you'll be doing lots of that ) you can see the run-in line and one of the rake shacks:
Here's a link for some China Lake/Ridgecrest history and pictures:
My brother works on the base there now. There aren't many apartment complexes to speak of, but there are some good neighborhoods that have houses for rent I'm sure. I'd stay away from the east side of China Lake Blvd. There are some new places going in that look nice by the college on the hill. Also some nice places between Norma and Downs St. Base housing is fairly limited from what I've seen. Its also pretty small.
