I have no clue about how selective the military is for fighter pilots. If anyone with the appropriate experience could look over my general description and let me know how I stand, that would be greatly appreciated.

I am a 23 year old male, 5'10", 155lb. I have a degree in Aviation Science. I have about 300 flight hours and am a newly minted flight instructor. I graduated with a 2.9 GPA (with the better grades within my major). I have reasonably strong math/science skills. I'm in decent shape with good health. I can run 3 miles in about 23 minutes. My vision is better than 20/20.
Unfortunately, I have very little leadership or community service experience. I also had a little run in with the law a few years ago. I was charged with posession of marijuana. I received a continuation (not a dismissal or a conviction) and I think the case was expunged after completing probation.

Thanks, in advance, for any help.

The short answer is: pretty much every stat you gave has almost nothing to do w/ getting jets. The first step is to get picked up for a commissioning program. Since it looks like you're out of college now, that would mean straight OCS. I'll let others who are in the fray talk about how those stats compare, but you definitely should go talk to an Officer Recruiter if you're interested.

To add to what Turbo says...

If you really want to be an aviator, don't rule out being an NFO.

That being said, if you want to be a pilot, put pilot first, regardless of what the recruiter (or anyone else) says. If you know you want it, list it first... Now that doesn't mean that's what you'll get. But its still a good idea to ask for what you want when the time comes.

Good luck and let us know what happens.

All what Gatordev said and this: You very well may have a problem with the possession charge, whether it has been expunged or not. There are tons of folks trying to get in who do not have this to contend with. I think it is great you are up front about it. Do NOT try to hide it. Get in touch with an Officer Recruiter for the details and go through the process to see if you are qualified.
Good luck.

And even more important...the type of car and size/type of your watch. Can you talk with your hands????

Thanks for all the helpful info, guys!... I think I can get my 3-mile run down to 18 minutes if I train for a month or two.

What is the sequence for this whole process? (For example, is it: first written application, then physical fitness/medical test, then you sign a contract, then you go to OCS, then you do all subsequent aviation training?) Also, if it doesn't look like you are going to be eligible for a flight slot, do they tell you before you sign a contract or afterward?

Bruce Wayne- He needs to be in shape but that's not what you said. You said to get out there and make sure he can do 20 pullups and run three miles in 18 minutes......that's just not the case for a Naval Officer.

Mattio- look around the OCS forum http://www.airwarriors.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=40 and again use the search function. For the Navy physical fitness test you will need to run 1 and a half miles and do pushups and crunches. The max for the run is around 8:10 I believe. Not too hard, but you should definitely study for the ASTB.....you WILL need to score high on it to have a shot with the charge and 2.9 GPA.
You will apply with three choices and they will tell you what you got selected for and then you can choose to accept it or not and then you will go to OCS here in Pensacola (at least for now) and then begin flight training....also here in Pensacola (at least the first part).

why not answer the dude's question and then offer a link with more info rather than throwing out a smart ass comment and leaving a link. The guy may be wrong but it would have taken you about 5 seconds to type that the navy has flight guarantees as well. why do some people on this site get so irritated when guys ask questions and haven't done a search? Some times the search function doesn't quite jive with a question someone may have, so I understand how redundant threads may come up. What I don't understand is why instead of taking a little bit of time to answer a question, or taking zero time to ignore a question, guys take a lot of time to search for similar threads and post that as the reply while simultaneously informing the person with the question that they are a lazy retard.

Classic example of a thread degrading into a hot mess.

Mattio, go talk to a recruiter. He's the only one with a definitive answer.

If you have more questions after that talking with him, post them in a new thread.

The rest of you, hash it out in PMs.
