Hey all,

I got the bad news from my recruiter today, I did not select for SNA, NFO or Supply. It was the worst feeling I've had an a long time. Of course I am discouraged but sulking is not going to get me anywhere. My recruiter said I had a strong package and he wants me to re-apply. I am determined to get selected so I am gonna retake the ASTB and the PRT and resubmit. My question you guys is, How many of you were selected on your first try. And how many of you had to re-apply a 2nd, 3rd, or even a 4th time?

I had to apply a couple of times. I would definitely resubmit. I wouldn't worry too much about your ASTB or PRT (unless you failed the PRT or your ASTB was especially low). Unless it has changed since I got picked up back in 2002, getting picked up really is a little bit of a crap shoot. The numbers they have to recruit keep rising and falling. If you've got a strong package, keep trying. The fact that you're willing to resubmit and write the letter explaining why you're resubmitting may be what it takes to get selected. Who knows?

thanks for the response. My ASTB scores were 59 7 6 6. Not bad, but also not great. And my PRT was 86 curl ups, 74 pushups, 11:36 run. My recruiter thinks I should retake everything to improve my chances. i am just worried that i might not do as well on the ASTB the 2nd time, however I know I can improve my PRT scores. My GPA is also only 3.22 and there is nothing I can do about that.

Also, my recruiter says I need new letters of rec. But I dont have anybody else to write them. Can I have the same people write them again?

I had to put second time for one reason. My application had to be resubmitted because whichever chief measured me for my first application couldn't read a tape measure and said my seated height was much taller than I really am disqualifying me from all Naval aircraft. So, we resubmitted my package with that one line changed and then I got accepted.

I had to apply twice. The first time I submitted I listed CEC as my 1st choice, and all aviation slots were full. Luckily, my CEC app was turned down because my degree is not accredited by the proper people. My OPO talked to me and decided to re-apply after Oct 1st, and this time listed SNA and NFO as my top choices. As fate would have it I was selected for NFO. Initially I felt somewhat shafted that CEC would turn me down on such a technicality; as it is my degree fits the mold perfectly. But I couldn't turn my back on my dream and quitting is for quitters. I got a couple more LORs and punched out a strong letter for reapplication. Best decision I ever made was to stick with it. Also, the NRD in Houston is outstanding in helping people get selected. They bent over backwards to help me.

Yeah, this thread definitely should come back, and I think more people should take the poll too; it could really give some aspiring officers more confidence to keep applying.
