Possible (?) Applicant. Stuck in the middle...

Hi All,

I will start off by telling a little about myself. And yes, I have used the search button and filtered through old forums. I've also used other websites and used google a ton. Some of this may seem familiar, and if so I apologize. Not my intentions.

I am a recent college graduate from the University of Dayton (Ohio) with a 3.502 GPA getting a Bachelor's in Biology. I thought it was going to be med school, but to be honest that was more my parents dream than mine. I took the MCAT, scored alright but realized this is not the life for me. I've been transfixed by aviation (RW to be honest, but flying in general mesmerizes me). I've talked to my parents about my want of career change, and they are supportive since I've got my education completed and afterall, it's my life. I'm working as an EMT in a hospital in the Cincinnati area. A fun job, but I keep thinking about flying. I'm glued to the windows watching the medical helicopters come and go. I've had a little background in flying, but nothing substantial. Realistically because I could never afford it since I paid and am still paying for my education.

Now after an introduction, here's to the point. I want to fly, I don't care for which branch. I am in the process of putting together a Warrant Officer packet for the Army. I know this is a Navy-geared site I didn't come here to bicker or say which branch is better. I just came across this website a few days ago, so I had no idea that the Navy was an option for me. I know where I can find all my resources for the Army, as the recruiting command has a fantastic website that has checklists and examples of packets and what they are to look like in order to be competitive. For the Navy, I can't find a website like this at all! I looked at the Pinned topic for the website, but it currently isn't working. Can anyone help me here?

Also, with the warrant officer program, you put together your application, it gets boarded every month for civilians and if you don't get selected for your specific MOS (Pilot in this case) you have no obligation at all. You simply get automatically pushed to the next board and then if you are a no-go again, you have to wait one year to reapply. Does the Navy OCS application process work like this? Forgive me if I am being completely ignorant, but I promise I have tried to do my research on my own and not trying to be a bother or annoyance to anyone. If you all would be willing to help me out, I would GREATLY appreciate it!

Finally, I'm 23 years old, so far 2.5 weeks out of my PRK surgery, just FYI.

Thank you all in advanced!

Cheers!

You work with your OR instead of relying on a website, at least that's the impression I've been given (by that, I mean it seems like for Warrant Officer in the Army you do the application on your own). If you are non select, you have to wait I believe 6 months to reapply and write a letter of reconsideration. There's a blog something like NY USN recruiting station and he's an OR and he has posted up documents showing what makes a competitive package. Hope this helps. You should probably call your local OR or NRD to get the ball rolling though.

First step is to find an officer recruiter. Find the Navy Recruiting District for your area and get in touch with an OR in that area. The more info you have going in the smarter you'll look. You'll take the ASTB and if the score is good, you'll put the application package together and submit to the boards. There is no obligation if you do not get picked up for pilot. Keep searching around here and you'll find lots of good info.

After you listen to this song:

Goto the prior board listings like October and November and look at people's stats. You will begin to see sort of what the Navy is looking for in candidates.

All,

Thank you so much for your help with the links and information. Don't know what I would do without the wealth of information I've seen on here so far. I went to the link that was given. Doesn't sound like there's much hope for anyone who isn't Nuke, SEAL or something else. That might just be the BS that people try to throw everyone's way but it seemed like a trusted source. Oh well, you never know if you don't try right? I am reading the FAA Rotorcraft Flying Manual now, then I have the ARCO book that I will use for the tests. I have some down time to work on studying and my PT so there should be no excuse for me not to do well on those things that I have control over. I appreciate the info once again!

Cheers,
Matthew
