Folks,

I don't know how many of ya'll read/received the most recent issue of Marine Times, but there is an article about a new retirement plan that may be proposed and I'm curious what everyone's thoughts were on it. I know Marine Times isn't the most "reliable" source of info and I'm no where near retiring but I found it interesting.

Here's the article: http://www.marinecorpstimes.com/new...alls-for-radical-retirement-overhaul-072511/v

I like the other proposed plans better, they at least leave the possibility of a "grandfather clause". All of us joined on the pretense that we would be able to do 20 and get a paycheck. It seems like this might hurt recruitment and retention more than they think, but then again what do I know!

Everyone is getting all excited about his. It's just a proposal from a "Think Tank" like entity asked to study the issue. I wouldn't pay it too much attention until OSD starts talking about it seriously.

It says that corporate America gives 4-12% of a salary, but the Gov gives almost 75%- But how much does corporate America pay people to do what we do? Much more than what we get paid. 12% of $300k is $36,000. 75% of 50k is $37,500. Pay me like you would pay someone in the corporate world doing what we do then you can give me corporate rate retirement.
