While going through training to become a Naval Aviator, do they ever simulate that you are a prisoner of war (e.g. drop you off in the middle of nowhere and force you to survive on your own…. Only to be eventually captured by the fictitious enemy who then imprisons you….). I was told that this was done back in the day.

This thread will not get you much more then Yes, yes you do go through training to aid you should the unthinkable happen. Its designed to give you some idea as to what kind of abuse you can and will be subjected to in the modern battlefield after the military rethought its stance on POWs and Torture due to treatment our POW's recieved during the Vietnam war.

Others will tell you the first rule of SERE is you dont talk about SERE. Opsec not withstanding if you know whats coming you wont get what you need to out of the training.

Goes beyond Opsec, and into the proper handling of classified material. A lot of SERE school is classified Confidential.
