Do you take a pre-ocs flight physical before you ship your package off, or does the MEPS physical take care of that?

Also, do they use the Ishihara colorvision tests in the flight physical or is it another type?

For the Marines I think you get a flight physical (my girlfriend did) instead of MEPS. I am Navy and went to MEPS. My flight physical will be in Pensacola.

let's get physicals

MEPS or Flight Physical:
The way I did it was I went to MEPS, then I got a Flight Pysical at a naval hospital, then I went to juniors, then I went to seniors, then I got another Flght Pysical at a naval hospital (they only last two years).

Color Vision:
MEPS: Ishihara
Flight Physical 1: light box test (dark room one eye open tell Doc if the light is red, white or green--very easy)
Flight Physical 2: Ishihara

Ishihara

Here's some sample Ishihara test plates. You should see: 8, 25, 45. If not no flying for you.

Just kidding about the 8, you should see a 6

I went to MEPS, then to an eye doctor for the eye exam, then juniors, then seniors, then another flight physical at a Naval Base. Make sure to get plenty of sleep and eat a good breakfast before the eye exam. It sounds silly, but I did the eye exam the second time at a Naval Base and got a 20-25 (I only got 1 hour of sleep the night before). I went home and had another eye exam (the same kind) and got a 20-15 (plenty of sleep the night before). It makes a difference. By the way, I believe you can have up to 20-40 vision and still fly in the Marine Corps.

If you are applying for an air contract, you should take the flight physical.

I took a full flight physical (I forgot the official term - I think it is "long form") before sending my package off. They gave me the Ishihara test. I never had to do a MEPS physical - your flight physical should negate you taking the MEPS physical.

I second bossart's advice on sleep to do better on the eye exam. Try not to spend too much time in front of a computer/TV/Book for the previous week as well. Blood pressure was a problem for me - I had one woman take it electronically and it was through the roof. Another nurse (who had more experience) did it the old fashioned way and I was securely within the limits. If something doesn't look right, or you are way out of the requirements and it might be due to "operator error" don't hesitate to bring it up.

There are many more requirements than just the 20-20 vision we are all aware of (such as refractive error, etc.) Marines allow for 20-40 far vision, but they require 20-20 near vision. I don't know off the top of my head the other vision requirements - you'll have to look those up if you are concerned.

You're entering a world of pain
I had to take my MEPS physical first, my OSO said that he wasn't allowed to run a PFT on me if I didn't. The flight physical was much more enjoyable then the MEPS physical. The MEPS was like going to the DMV except the angriest worker stabs you with needles.

lol greaper, that description of MEPS just about sums it up. I've been in the PLC program for nearly 3 years now and i'm done with OCS but no flight physical so far. The only physical I had was at MEPS and that was a long time ago. They actually tried to tell me I had no depth perception...idiots.
