preparation for api

im a bdcp pilot guy waiting for ocs (july 16), just relaxing for the summer. would taking any ground school/private pilots classes better prepare me for api? or should i just concentrate on ocs prep for now and worry about prepping for api in that almost certain downtime between ocs and api. any help would be amazing-- thanks

i wouldnt worry about anything aviation related until you finish OCS. concentrate on OCS for now. ground school/private pilot license wont help you at this moment. before flight school you will do IFS which will give you 25 hours of civilian flight time and anything you'd get you'd get there. as was told to me in API, just take it one week at a time.

You can't prep for API. It is a beast all it's own - a pain in the butt, but very do-able if you put in the time and effort during API.

Keep relaxing - you'll wish you had later on...

While I was stashed after OCS I read through the books a couple of times which helped me. In retrospect API wasn't too bad! But that's just like everything in this training pipe, it's hard as hell while you're doing it but afterward you're like, that wasn't so bad! But I will say I still think the first week of OCS was the hardest thing or I've been through in the Navy or at least the suckiest. Worse than SERE! You KNOW SERE will end in a reasonably short amount of time but I just kept thinking sh*t I've got 12 more weeks of this!

Holy cow dude, read as much as you can, or you're screwed ! I'm in week 3 of API and I'm overwhelmed with these damn ELO's and flashcards !

Nah, I'm just kidding. All the studying you'll need to do will be done during API. Don't waste too much time pre-studying; you're not an FY04 guy (like me) subject to that stupid 42.5 NSS so there's nothing to worry about. Skimming through the books might help you get a little oriented on how the material is presented but that's about it. Spend all that free A-pool time at the beach, Seville quarter, Meguire's, or Florabama .

GEt in shape, run a lot, work on your push ups & situps and know your big 4. That is all you can do to prepare for OCS. Oh yea, practise eating with a spoon, and drink four glasses of water for every meal.

Ah, yes, I was at the Florabama last weekend, and it looked much better than I expected (last visit was 5 days before Ivan). NASCC is awfully far from the Florabama...when was the last time you drank there? :icon_zbee

Oh, last time I knew anything was when I read an article about it on the News Journal's website a little less than a month ago. You're right, Corpus is kinda far. But I've found a great replacement here, anyone in Corpus knows Farahs.
