i'm gonna be applying to the august plc board, w/ 20/40 astigmatic vision.
should i put my app in for nfo, then switch over to sna after i'm accepted? or should i postpone the app until after i get the prk, then apply as sna?

my oso is telling me to go in as nfo, and switch after the surgery.
just wanted a few 2nd opinions...
thanks.

I don't know how things work in the Marines, but in the Navy everyone on the site says not to do that unless you want to be a NFO. I don't have any firsthand knowledge, so maybe your OSO is right.

I would think the only thing you need to worry about is how your eyes heal after the surgery. I don't know how easy it is to go from nfo to sna, but my friend went from ground to air in a matter of minutes. well, she signed a paper, sent it to the district and they approved the change over.....I say, as long as you get something in writing (if at all possible), then you have nothing to worry about.

I hope I am wrong for your sake but I have had PRK and have always heard that PRK and astigmatism is a no go. I could be dead wrong. You should, however, check the pre-surgery requirements of the Navy/USMC before hand if you haven't already.

Just another opinion

Rumor is, if you sign up for NFO, that's what you'll get and switching over is not at all recommended. In fact, it could be darn near impossible.
