Pro Rec'd NFO
Hey everyone, just wanted to share my excitement on being pro-rec'd for NFO fy '05. Like many others I initially wanted sna, but due to lack of pilot slots, I was reccomended for my 2nd option. The board told my oso that there are no pilot slots period right now.
I was actually in PLC with the Marines, selected as SNA, attended first six weeks of OCS, and upon returning home, withdrew once I found out my forced billet of Forward Air Controller the last couple years of my contract.
Also didn't wish to attend The Basic School. Crawling around in the mud is just not my cup of tea. I thought I was screwed for getting anything with the Navy after disenrolling from the PLC program, but I guess I was wrong.
Just to let you know my stats:
oar 65 6/6/6
Math Major 3.4 gpa,
only one letter of rec. from teacher
(maybe these don't matter as much as initially thought?)
National deans list, high school letter in both soccer and water polo.
I think the math major is what put me over. Math is very relevant to navigation and I think it will help out.
If anyone has any questions on Marine OCS or PLC, I'd be happy to answer them.
Also, just from personal experience, if you join the Marines under aviation only to fly, you may be rudely awakened to how much ground stuff you have to go through before you'll ever touch an aircraft. I've heard many on this site quote "You must me a marine before you are a pilot" and many have refuted it. I must agree with those who made the quote, as I heard it repeated often by others while at OCS.
I've been reading forums in the background, but didn't really want to say anything in the forums since I don't have too much experience yet, and found most of my questions by searching forums. I just wanted to express my excitement for my pro rec, and hope to continue to see others succeed on this website.
This is by far one of the most helpful forums on the internet, and any comments on what will help for Navy OCS would be greatly appreciated.
