Pro-Rec'ed Nov '10, OCS Summer '12???

Pro-Rec SWO! (11/24/10)
Well...I got an email from my recruiter who got a message from the head of officer programs on the West Coast, apparently due to ROTC and Naval Academy grads getting SWO billets, I won't be going to OCS until Summer of 2012. Apparently I'm the first person affected. This is a pretty big downer. I was expecting from everything I was told that I'd be going in fall, if not sooner. People pro-reced in November were getting March dates even.

But, that is how it goes, and there was no way I was going to decline the pro-rec. No chance!

Anybody else affected, that is going SWO or even under any other program?

I think I'm in the same boat as you. I have a pro-rec from September, and was told this past Tuesday that NRC had suspended both recruiting and processing of FY12 SWO's. There were 17 people I believe who had already received a pro-rec who, due to this suspension, would no longer be receiving final selects. You and I are probably 2 of those 17. Like you, I was told to expect an August/September OCS date. Now it looks like there won't be any room for SWO's at OCS until FY13 - the summer of 2012, like you said. I've been talking with my OR and he seems to think that there's potential for a class in this time frame, but he's unsure as to where that leaves those who already have a pro-rec. I'm not sure if we're going to have to reapply, or if this suspension is only temporary, and our pro-rec's will (eventually) get us our FINSEL docs.

This is only affecting SWO's. SWO-NUKE is not affected. There will be no SWO board in April, but I'm hearing that there's a possibility of one in September. If I get any more information from my OR, I'll be sure to pass it along, and I'd appreciate it if you did the same. Right now I'm sort of stuck in limbo. I was expecting to get my OCS date any day, and now here I am not sure how to proceed. Definitely a major setback, but if I'm guaranteed a spot next summer, I'll take it. I have no problem waiting, I'm just worried I'm going to have to start back at square one and reapply. If my pro-rec remains valid, I'm good to go.

Thanks a lot, kdenn. I think it just seems were the unlucky ones. Probably how they stacked up the papers, ha ;).

I did hear about the boards being cancelled for April and being held possibly in September. I didn't hear all the details about it essentially being a suspension of NRC. And 17 wow...didn't know that either.

From what I got though, I was given 3 choices, which seems like either turn it down, apply to another program, OR get Final Select and go all the way in Summer 2012. This makes me think that we still need to wait for the official final selection, but we won't lose our pro-rec, so long as all of our papers are in.

That's a HUGE relief, that we won't lose our pro-rec. That was my biggest concern. Obviously I would've liked to go to OCS this year, like I was originally told I would be. However, the ultimate goal here is the be a Naval Officer, and I'd be more than willing to wait to summer '12 if it meant I could hang on to my pro-rec and avoid resubmitting my application for the next SWO board. I think we just got dealt a bad hand this time around, but if there's still room for me at OCS next year, I'll take it :)

Good luck to you all and keep your eyes on the prize! I started my application process in 2008 and am just now going to OCS on 20 February. Do not get discouraged...it is well worth the wait!

Thanks, man! Good luck on your 12 week vacation :p. I'll keep my eye on it, at least I'll have time to do my P90x work outs a few times over :D

Thought you might find this helpful. My recruiter posted this on his blog:

FY 11 Pro Y's

For those who were Professionally Recommended this last fiscal year but are not getting ship dates there is some good news. The OPO (Department Head) received an email from CNRC stating that all Pro-Y's that we have currently will be Final Selected to ship next fiscal year. I believe ship date will be the second week of July 2012. Anything else I get, I will make sure to post it."

here's the link: http://linavy.blogspot.com/2011/03/fy-11-pro-ys.html

So from the looks of it, those SWO's who were pro-rec'd but affected by the suspension will be leaving July 8th, 2012, making them the first class of FY13. Has anyone else heard anything regarding this?

Well after 22 months of beginning to put my app in and 18 months after getting pro rec'ed (Nov. 2010), I have been given an OCS date of the 19th of August of this year!

Wow. Can't believe it.
