hey guys...
back in jan i messaged on here about starting the process for an ocs commission... just wanted to give an update but more importantly thank everybody

i took the astb two days ago and got a 7/6/8 59... my recruiter said i could pack my bags if i got in the 60s so when the 59 came up on the comp screen... i was real pissed... such a cocktease but i guess its better than a 58 right

i couldn't of done it without atrickplay's study guide... the thing was dynamite and i bet he had the same form i did (form 5) cause some of the ?s were identical. i think what kept me from the 60s was the spatial... it was nothing like i practiced. the angles on the test were so much more extreme than the practice stuff... ie you had bank angles going all the way around the top corners where as in the practice they never go more than 3/4 of the way up the sides of the pictures (if that makes sense). also in practice you could narrow the choices down to two usually based just on the plane location (like over water toward land or off land toward water etc) the test had 4 of the 5 choices being the same land set up and the angles of bank were all to the correct side the only difference being in the varying angles of bank themselves. i used barrons and both arco books and i was getting 0 wrong on the spatial practice but come real astb test time i was really taken back and i know this kept me from a higher pilot score. other than that... the math was a lot easier than i thought it would be. verbal was all read a paragraph and answer a ?. mechanical; i was a mechanical engineer in college so... ha. aviation/nautical knowledge i mighta guessed at 5 of them tops. i dont think im going to retake it. 1) albany is a hike for me to drive to 2) i really dont know how much more i could study and 3) i cant take anymore time off work or ill get fired ha...

recruiter said the average astb is a 44 so i guess im pumped. we'll see what happens... my application right now is for pilot nfo swo.

prt went well... i got a excellent low for my overall... 91 situps, 74 push, and a 11:11 1.5 mi. somewhere on this board someone said that the prt is straight pass/fail and if you do better than good low it doesnt matter. that is wrong. if you do better it is indicated in your package and every little bit counts right... i dont mean to call that person out at all i just wanted to give my findings so someone else might train a little harder than if they thought good low was the only option.

this is running on for awhile i'm sorry... but another thing... for meps i managed to fail the depth perception somehow... i have 15/17 vision and played 3 sports in hs and 1 in college (baseball). how i don't have depth perception is beyond me. thoughts? the plan for now is to find an eye specialist or 3 or 4 ha... and have him (or her) check me out and hopefully get a letter saying i'm legit to submit with my package.

thanks again guys. there is no way in hell i would of gotten anywhere close to my score if it wasnt for this website and i am very grateful to everyone even if the ocs bid doesnt pan out.

ok i'm done finally....

Good for you!

My recruiter said the same thing about the prt. I was a little surprised (and upset :().

Good luck with your DP. You're so close...

Congrats on the progress.

A couple notes. The OAR portion of your ASTB is not what gets you "IN" for pilot and nfo...it's those three numbers prior. Your 7/6/8 should work...6 is about average for what gets submitted in the board. (That number and the 7 you have is what the pilot portion of the selection board looks at.) The OAR is safe above 50 pretty much. OAR is more important to people who don't need the first three scores.

The PRT: While I agree everyone should do their best and not just "settle" for a Good Low. It is indeed more of a pass/fail with the ASTB more of a biggie. The Marine Corps look at fitness as a priority and the ASTB as more of a pass/fail. It is just two different cultures. You should still do your best and stay as physically fit as possible though.

This is coming from someone who was pro-rec'd and about to leave in a week for OCS. (Had a 2.52 GPA and 8/9/8 57 ASTB) Also, most if not all Navy OCS applicants can back me up on this information.

Again, congrats don't fvck it up.

Yes, the actual scores are reported, but it doesn't mean the board necessarily cares.
