Please forgive me if this has been asked before-- I did a search on it and couldn't find any specific information. Besides the water survival stuff, do you do a lot of other PT at API? Specifically, is there an obstacle course (bane of my existance)? Do you PT every day or is it more like specific events? Either way, I'll be ready, but it would be good to have a link or some info on what to expect. Thanks.

If you can stay afloat you will be fine for water survival and if you can run the PRT without throwing up all over yourself and neighbor PT should be no problem

I'm in API now, and there's no real organized pt. On the days when we have pt, all we do is play volleyball or basketball or lift weights. Its mostly swimming, and like boilersmack said, if you can float and swim, you're all set.

They should get some sweet dodgeball action in there.

So there's nothing physical that you have to do besides weight-lifting/basketball and swimming? Yes, I can run the PRT (pretty well) and swim (very well), but I swore I heard about O-courses, daily PT, etc. If not, that's cool. I am just trying to get a better picture about what the non-classroom stuff will be like (besides the swim--there's a thread on that). If anyone has any more input, that would be great.

Do you PT at your ROTC unit?? I assume that you do, and it's probably 10 times harder than any PT you will do in API. Besides the PRT, we have run a total of 3 laps around the track, done a few pushups and situps, and some stretching. And that was during just one PT session. Everything else has been PT on your own using whatever facilities they have in the gym (i.e. weight equipment, basketball court, volleyball court). The swimming will be the hardest thing you do by far.

Man I don't know what nightmares you've been having, but I'm glad I haven't had them. There's no o-course or daily pt in API.

From a PT perspective, API was a cakewalk. The water survival experience is either alot of fun or sheer terror, depending on how you mentally prepare yourself for frezzing swimming pools and trying to float with full flight gear on. everyone fears the dunker, but jumping from the tower, then swimming underwater was more challenging than it looked. I was about 6% bodyfat when I arrived at API, so "floating" was more about technique than fitness. My advice is buy ypurself some worn out jumpboots, an old flight suit, find a lifeguard and learn the zen of the 'frog-kick' :)

You might have heard stuff from AOCS, when Pensacola's OCS program was Aviation only and included API. But that was a while back. Due to the hurricane, the chip trail is out of commision, and we ran the PRT on the track. There were a couple days when our HM2, who ran PT and swim, took my class out and really gave us a good workout. But that only happened twice. I second all the comments about floating... it's a great skill to have. For the most part, I had a great time with the physical aspect of API.
