Question about OCS App.

I am new here. I have been reading the posts and they have all been helpful. However, I feel as though I have a unique situation. I have a solid resume and a 3.3 GPA. I am a senior at a major University and have majored in IS and minored in Spanish. My dilemma occured when I was a Sophomore in College (19 Years of Age). I was given an MIP (Alcohol) citation. I was never arrested and the item was expunged from my record. I have never been arrested, nor do I have any other 'negatives' on my record. How much will this affect my overall application package and, hearing this first hand, how might a recruiter respond? Thank you all.

Respectfully,

JJM

Its not a good thing, but its not a showstopper either. I would address it in the application essay. If it was a DUI it would probably be a much bigger deal. All you can do is try. Good luck

Definitely be up front about it. Even though it's been expunged they will find out about it whether you tell them or not, so it's important to be honest. I'd also try to show how you've improved yourself since and make sure they know it was a one time mistake that you've learned from.

Had the exact same thing and know a few other guys who had them as well so its obviously not a deal breaker. I think I included a separate letter explaining it with my application. As others said, don't try to hide it or it becomes a big deal.

How big of deal is it if you overlook it? Probably, NCIS will come and ask you about why you did not put it on the app and ask you to explain it......

No it will probably just end your chances of becoming a Naval Officer. You don't want to have skeletons in your closet because it will probably come out eventually, not to mention officers are supposed to have integrity. If you are considering "overlooking" something like this you might want to consider another line of work.

I was not inferring lie about it, just in circumstance if it was over looked what then? My personal integrity is beyond reproach and integrity is not a word developed just for officers but any soldier, sailor, etc......
A couple years as a recruiter would probably help you understand the meaning of administrative oversight.

You absolutely have to be upfront about this. I'm also of the opinion that knowingly "overlooking" something is the same as lying about it. That's not the way to start a career.
