Question for Marine Corps current or prior Es

What college credit is awarded for the Marine Corps Common skills course and the Machine Gun Team Trainer? Also what MOS' are associated with each? Us early riverines attended these two school and I am going to try and pull strings and see if we can't get them added to our SMART if they are worth credit.

We also have Marine Corps combat marksman and water survival instructors (MCWIS they call it I believe).

If anyone can shoot me some information on these MOS' or anything that would help me coordinate what the heck I am talking about when speaking with the folks at SMART, that would be great.

What will end up happening is that when you show up to your school and they will help you allocate a lot of those courses into something more in line with their curriculum. Obviously the SMART transcript is the big one, but if you have other certificates it couldn't hurt to bring them to your advisor.

When I presented my SMART transcript a lot of the courses just turned into "general credits" which didn't necessarily replace any of the courses I needed, but I was able to sort of wiggle my way out of some. I got an ethics class waived by talking about how much ethical training I got in bootcamp, and I got a public speaking class waived by talking about how as an NCO I had spoken in front of large groups many times. Off the top of my head I got out of a health class the same way.

Of course my buddies in the liberal arts college didn't fare so well and had to take a lot of those courses, of course they had a lot of electives written into their degree which the SMART transcript filled up.

Bring back any memories?

I am aware of how useless most SMART credits are. I figure I am still going to try and get each and everyone that I can.

I am working with ACE right now to get the riverine schools evaluated...I am amazed no one at Riverine Group has taken initiative to get recognition for us. Just yesterday I had our NECs evaluated for the Navy COOL program.

I am a firm believer in getting recognition for accomplishment. We have received a substantial amount of unique training and it is good to see that all the guys here will get something from it now.

Off topic but there is talk about close looping the riverines and creating the rate RC (riverine crewman) with a rotation of 7 and 2 ...ouch. They are taking steps now to extend and push PRDs keeping only the people they desire. Looks like a great idea in my eyes, they have been loosing a lot of experience to the fleet.

Heyjoe, you would be surprised to see the evolution that the riverines has gone through this past year. If you haven't made a visit lately it would be quite a surprise. Tactics and SOPs have drastically changed for the better.

My only gripe is being under Army control this deployment as opposed to the Corps.

Actually, it's my job to stay on top of that. We even played in last Cape Fear live fire exercise. Just wait until you get toys we're developing for you!
