Question for those classing up for API, RIGHT NOW.

I reported to NAS Pensacola on the third of February, 2006 as a SNA.

I sat around doing nothing for awhile, as most do, and then classed up for IFS out at Eglin around March 20th. Tomorrow, April 11th will be my last flight in IFS... and I'm wondering how long people are averaging between IFS and API right now. I want to go to Whitting afterwards, but I heard that's pretty backed up and mos single sailors such as myself are classing up quickly and heading to Corpus.

I'm just looking for anyone who's classed up very recently and can give me an idea of how long I'll be sitting around again.

The word on the street for pilots is as soon as you are done with nomi and the boltc, you will be classing up the next week or the week after. So pretty much no waiting around for the pilots. NFOs are a whole different story.
Whiting is pretty much out of the question, Vance is on the top of the list, and then Corpus. This is just what info I got when I checked in.

I'm curious as to why SNA's tend to be classing up for API fairly soon after going into the A-pool and SNFO's are still waiting 6-7 months to class up? I have had the impression that the Navy has a more pressing need for NFO's. Wasn't very long ago that they were overstocked with SNA's. Any thoughts anyone?

they say that the schools are now taking like 16 pilots instead of the normal 8 or something like that, so now the pilots are needed more than NFOs, or so I have heard

Right Now, Not valid tomorrow

SNAs

Wait for Whiting is approximately 13 weeks. I you have follow on orders you will be going to location specified in your follow on orders, as of now. If you do not have follow on orders and "want" to go to Whiting, this will probably not happen. I originally wanted to go to Whiting and I'm living in Whiting Pines. I am now classing up on Friday and going to Corpus.

Corpus is taking people at 4 weeks.

Vance is still taking people at 3 weeks.

SNOs

Still a long wait.

This is just information for today, tomorrow everything could change. Learn to be flexible.

how does one get follow on orders to whiting?

I have two friends in pensacola right now who have follow on orders to whiting due to them having a family.

Right Now, probably outdated by the time I hit submit.

Having a family does not mean you get follow on orders. Some people get them some don't. I know of a few people who requested an order-mod to get follow on orders after they completed IFS before they transferred. I don't know first hand why certain people do and do not get follow on orders. Although if manning gets too low and Vance or Corpus needs bodies follow on orders could be cancelled. Once again this is as of "right now". In fact things will probably change again next week. That's the beauty of this business.

Even if you don't get the training wing you "want", you are still going to flight school. Suck it up.

I checked into A-pool the last week of Feb 2006, I'm classing up for API on Apr 28 (about a 9 week wait, and they told me 14-19 weeks originially!) and am going to Whiting for Primary.

I had follow-on to Whiting because I was a prior Enlisted (or at least, that's why they told me I was getting them). I am single too. hmm, go figure.

as for getting Vance, volunteers for there are getting sent through pretty quick... 3 weeks sounds about right...

I am also a prior and I'm married with children (Al Bundy is great...sorry) and I still didn't get follow-on orders. I don't think there is an actual method to the madness.

I can beat that easily.

I checked in July 1. That's about 42 weeks.

Note to anyone else heading to API - Don't tear your acl.
