Question on being on reserve duty

I was hoping someone could answer a question about NROTC. After you serve your years of active duty and you have 4 years as a reserve; what does that actually mean? Is it like National Guard where you have to spend a weekend a month? Or are you just inactive for four years if they decide they need you? How often do people end up becoming active duty during that 4 ears on reserve duty?
