Question on living quarters

I am reporting to API on 7Apr, which I assume will be followed by a long wait, my wife is staying behind to finish out the school year(teacher) and wont be down until about 1Jun. My question is, what are the options for geo-bachelors, can I stay in the BOQ during that time? I know I will have to pay for most of that time but it is cheaper than a hotel. We will be renting a house but I really dont want to be renting 2 places for that 2 months, and since we arent moving house hold goods until the wife leaves, it would be kindof pointless to have a whole house with nothing in it. Comments, suggestions (be nice:tongue2_1 )

I thought that as a geo-bach you got BAH for your wife back home and either free BOQ or local BAH for you to stay out in town. That's how it worked when I was in API last year, did they change it? Also, my orders to API were TDY. They wouldn't PCS my wife to Pcola unless I had follow-on orders to Whiting (which I didn't have). If you've got PCS to API then you woulnd't get BAH for two places, obviously. That all make sense?

Since youre SNFO, you should be PCS. Also, when i reported last Aug, the most you could stay in the BOQ was 8 days. During that time, i went house hunting and found a place. Last I heard, they are not allowing ppl reporting to API to live in the BOQ longer than 8 days. But you might want to call the quarterdeck at NASP to confirm that.

It is PCS for me, I was an OC/STA21, so we get a PCS move. I will have to check on the BOQ for only 6 days thing. When I was in Norfolk some of the geo-bach got a place at the BQ, wasnt the nicest place to stay though, but it was free.

You could try the Q at Correy Station. Back in March they wouldn't let the API studs into the mainside BOQ, but you could get into the Correy Station one if there was room. Worth a shot, it's only a five minute drive.

Yeah, as of Oct they were still doing the Correy Station deal. I can't say how much room is left though, if any.

Hourocket, I gave all this info to your wife but I will reiterate it for you. You are authorized 10 days TLE. You will be allowed to live in the BOQ at the ridiculously high rate of just over $30 per night. 10 days of that will be reimbursed to you via your TLE. Currently there are available rooms at the BOQ at NASP but they seem to wax & wane at the fancy of whomever answers the phone. Whether you get BAH at the Houston rate & FSA is at the whim of whomever processes your paperwork at PSD (since you are PCS eligible & will be moving your spouse & HHG here) & unfortunately for you, in my experience here, the Marine PSD is wonderful, the Navy PSD is well, Navy PSD & you would think they were handing out their own money. I'm sorry to be the bearer of the bad news but as a result of my extensive research into this subject, I made the choice to move to Pensacola prior to closing on the sale of our home in VA b/c the costs incurred would be less for us to pay the mortgage on an empty house there than to pay his Q & food bill here separately possibly paying for lodging OOP while waiting for HHG (which they made us wait 10 days for!). I realize that due to your wife's position this isn't possible for you though. Might be time to peruse the board & see if anyone has a furnished room for rent for 2 months.
