Question on OCS/Training Moves for Enlisted Personnel

AT3Macklin

Commissioned 17 AUG 2012
I'll be up for the Supply board at the end of this month and the aviation boards in January and some questions relating to any moves that have to be made if I get selected. I am married and just PCS'd to Whidbey Island, WA. My wife doesn't have a whole lot of connections to tie herself down here. This has brought a lot of questions to mind as far as how this series of moves for training might go down and what my options are. Is there anyone out there that is prior enlisted and married that knows what my options are if I get selected?

None of the priors that I knew were able to bring their wives with them to OCS, so either way you would have to wait until whatever training came after OCS, but both supply school and flight school you will be able to move your family.

There is some mass confusion about whether or not you get paid to move your family to Pensacola for API or if you have to wait until primary. Hopefully that will get cleared up eventually. I had been told something different by every admin person I talked to about when to get PCS, PPM, and FSA. But I applied for all of it in advance with no FSA, and I got it all up front, so my experience is you can move your family to API.

if you get to go to OCS your wife will stay in your PDS. After that it will all depend on where your next duty station is. For the most part, unless your school is over 12 months long you will not be authorized to move your dependents with you at the Navy's expense, but that is not to say that you can't have them with you in the navy lodge or wherever you are staying. Like I said it would depend on where you are going. Also, if you have school age kids you may want to just leave them wherever they will get the most stability so it does not conflict with their school year.
