Questions About BDCP

Hello,

I am interested in the BDCP Program and have some Questions:

1. What are the benefits of BDCP other than the pay, Do you recieve BAH, BAS, and health insurance? Will I receive a Military ID?

2. Is GPA a major factor? My GPA is not a 2.7, but I really want to join the Navy as an Officer.

3. Also I am a General Studies major, will that affect my chances?

Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions.

1. Yes, yes, yes and yes. You can also get in state tuition at state schools and the USAA $25,000 loan at 2%. That's practically free money.

2. GPA is one of the factors. Try getting it as high as possible by the time your formally apply. A GPA of 2.7 is the minimum but it is not competitive. Other factors contribute to selection. If you are below a GPA of 2.7 right now you better fix it.

3. It depends. SNA and SNFO get selected out of all sorts of degrees. If you're planning on Supply, Intel or Public Affairs you will need a degree in that area.

I concur with Tom but would like to add/modify the following:

2) Gpa is a major factor, but there are many other major factors that play a role in selection. The big picture is what counts (strong letters of recommendation, proven track record of leadership and ambition, good ASTB scores, good motivational statement, extracurriculars, etc etc)

I am a perfect example of someone that DIDN'T get chosen for a high gpa. But yes, a 2.7 is the minimum. In a lot of instances, the major plays into account what is and isn't competitive. For instance, someone that has a 3.4 in Aerospace Engineering is viewed higher as someone that has a 3.4 in Business Management (in most instances).

3) I disagree with Tom on this one. You DO NOT have to have a degree in anything special to pursue supply, intel, or public affairs; although having a major that goes right along with the community you are applying for certainly doesn't hurt.

Also I encourage you to use the search function on AW. You'll find a lot of information regarding your questions.

I seriously doubt I could get a job in Intel or PAO with a degree in aviation.

I had a supply slot and was majoring in aerospace engineering. Now i'm SNA and have a degree in management. I know an intel select that majored in aerospace studies. As I said, a major that can be applied towards your field may help, but in no way do you 'need' a degree in that area to apply or be competitive.
