i am new to this website, i was wondering if anyone can help me out with a question or two i have regarding going into ocs, or the marines in general.

if you have surgery or have metal screws or plates are you still eligible to join the same as everyone else? or will they most likely not take you? my nephew had knee surgery 3 years ago and has two metal screws in his knee but is interested in going to ocs. he wants to be an officer. does anyone know the answer?

In short - it depends. However, there are waivers out there for just about everything. If your nephew is asymptomatic of any knee problems currently, it shouldn't really be a problem. If he wants to be an officer, he should go for it. The worst that could happen would that they'd say no.

A good friend of mine (a Marine captain) has pins, plates, bolts, and all sorts of other crap in his body. The whole "waiver" thing is based on one thing-- how bad you want to be a Marine. I've got several waivers under my belt :). Concur with the previous post... go for it!
