Hello,

I am a senior about to graduate with a bachelors in adminisration of justice, and I am thinking the navy may be a great option for after graduation because I am really unsure about the job market, and I would really want some experience. I am looking to go into public policy someday. One big concern I hav is that I have a ton of student loans to pay off, and I am questioning whether I should enlist to take advantage of the loan repayment program or whether I should become an officer?

Well, if it's strictly a financial decision, you'll have to run the numbers and see which option works out better. What kind of enlisted loan repayment program is there now?

Currently the Navy offers enlisted sailors up to 65,000 in loan repayment. I am just unsure whether I can recieve that funding as an officer. I will be graduating with a 3.4 GPA, I played Div3 football for 4 years. I really would like to go for OCS, but I am worried about my financial burden. I am wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation.

You cannot get the loan repayment as an officer in the USN. However, if you think you'd be better off taking a loan repayment and enlisting vs. no repayment and going for officer, you can't do math.

Exactly what he said, run the numbers then take into account how your life will be different as an officer/enlisted.....I only have about 40k in loans and being an officer payed off after about 4 years and beyond (did the math months ago so dont flame if I'm off).
