I'm in Delta Co, TBS, and we got our orders today. Mine (and about everyone else's) say to report in to Pensacola NLT 23 December. I'm driving from Virginia to Texas on the 16th, so if I stop in to Pensacola on the 18th (which happens to be a Saturday), can I get anything done? Or would I have to book it and arrive the 17th, or just come back after that?

Also, if I do report in, can we just take leave straight from there and come back in January? Does API get the same sort of "basket leave" TBS companies that train around the holidays do? My apologies for all the questions, but they've really told us nothing about how this is going to work. Any help y'all can give me (and everyone else in D Co) would be appreciated.

You should try and get the number for MATSG down here and ask that question. I don't have the number but it should be floating around up there somewhere. They should be able to give you the no kidding answer to your question.

Yeah, try and call MATSG. The policies for Marines are different than Navy here. I'm in API, and we never see Marines til they class up with us. Kray is right, they should be able to answer that.

If you have leave enroute and have plans DO NOT check in. If you check in and request leave and they ahve a slot to class you up or some other job ie stand duty on X-mas (new guys get screwed) you might get it. If it say NLT 23rd show up at midnight on the 23rd then go have Christmas or arrange soem mroe leave with your orders to carry you through christams. You really cant do much offcially until you actually check in but you can get a house etc though you wont start drawing BAH unitl you check in. TBS is the only place that gives basket leave. If you dont have neough leave dont worry you can go in the hole you wont have much oportunity to take it once you class up and start. If you ahve any other questions let me know. Keep in mind if you call MATSG you will probably talk to an attrited LT who is now working u\in Stud control and needs a body for something.

I'm in the same boat as Belsha, my NLT report date is Dec 23rd, and I have plans to be in Vegas on the 21st, and also I want to check out houses in Pcola before I head back to CA. My plan is tentatively to drive down there on the 16th (getting fast and as far away from Quantico VA as possible) and looking at houses, checking in and taking leave before I head back to CA.

The matsg website is down: www.matsgfl.usmc.mil
If anyone has the number to their OOD or something, I'd appreciate it.

If any of y'all need the number, shoot me a PM, and I'll provide it. Still have it stored in the trusty ol' cellphone.

How does Christmas leave work while you're in the pipeline? I know it's a ways away, but I was trying to get an idea for next Christmas because I have a wedding to go to, along with Christmas two days later. Any help would be appreciated.

There will be a set leave period established for all students in NASC. It doesn't matter if you are waiting to class up for either IFS or API, or even currently classed up. This year it was from 18DEC - 3JAN. It's as simple as filling out your leave chit for those dates and it should be approved. It should be around the same dates next year so you should have no problems making your friend's wedding.

Each of the training wings will also have their own established leave dates. They will vary from wing to wing, but will be similar to the dates mentioned above.
