Class 0606!!! New Ensigns!!! (as of Jan27th)
First Question:

Do they allow you to use flash cards when studying at OCS?

Whenever I use flash cards I tend to do great on Test. I don’t make a 1000 flashcards or anything like that, but for the more difficult information I like using them. Now when I was in enlisted boot camp we didn’t use flash cards but OCS seems to be different in a lot of aspects. Just curious and that’s why I’m asking.

Second Question is for former enlisted that went through OCS.

Was a lot of the material information you already knew from being enlisted?

Third Question:

Do former enlisted tend to do better on the academics portion?

Thanks for any help you can provide me.

IT1 soon to be ENS

Yep you can use em, but you have a little notebook you'll have to write it all down in as well.

Not much of it. Admin classes should be easy for you and ranks will be easy.

I was an AT1 going through a couple of years ago, and prior knowlege helped a little, but academics are really not that big of a deal. some stuff from boot camp that I remembered vaguely helped (again, very little. Like office entry procedures). Everybody will be looking to you for help, but on most things you will be as lost as the rest, (Although I did act like I knew what was going on) because like someone already said in another thread, OCS ain't the REAL Navy. New guys thought I had no military bearing because I was laughing most of the time or cutting up, but that is just how I got through w/o loosing my mind (Like SERE School). So what if you have to push a little more, the only tangable thing I got from OCS (being a Nasty Prior) was humility and you will DEFINATELY need that being a prior first class.

So topics like

Seamanship
Damage Control
And other military information that we study all the time doesnt help?

hmm...

I thought we would have an edge on some of the material. I know the Navy real well and study everything. I thought I they would cover some of those area I know. Like the UCMJ, Dmage control, and stuff I learned through my ESWS. Oh well. Time to get my thinking cap on.
Good thing I can use flash cards. Thanks for your input.

You'll get a little of that stuff but it's pretty basic!

Yes, they train together.

Shoot! They LIVE together. There is really no segregation what so ever other than seperate heads and the door to their staterooms. Works out well if your boyfriend just happens to be in the class ahead of you, but I am not talking about anyone specifically ;)

Good to see you back EngineGirl, hows the boat?

Well, there is a p-way with 4-man staterooms. The rooms have doors, but no locks. In the middle of the p-way, or the end depending on phase of training, are the heads. Its like a dorm, but the females live amongst you. The females in my class had a room accross from mine. There is no supervision after 1900, but you won't figure that out until its too late to take advantage of it. Or did you mean what the rooms look like?
