Raising my AQR and PFAR

How can I go about raising those scores. I took the ASTB back in Feb and scored as follows
AQR 3
PFAR 3
FOFAR 2
OAR 43

I need at least a 4 for AQR and 5 for PFAR minimum. Any ideas would be great!

TIA

SAT MATH book, Arco Study guide and the Marine ASTB Gouge (google it, it's out there). Search around here and study.

I've pulled a bunch of links for the gouge and such and plan on studying them. So math is bringing me down?

There are lots of threads on here about raising your ASTB score. Check those out by searching ASTB. Right off the bat I would get the ARCO, Barron, and Marine gouge ASTB guides and study them until you dream about the stuff.

You are probably going to need to put in some serious study time to raise those scores so don't rush the retake if you can help it. When you can nearly ace the study tests while timing yourself you will know you are ready. If you don't understand how to do a certain problem take the time to figure out how to do it right. Take the time to review in the practice sections of the study guides until you understand the subjects well.

Always take the practice tests timed. Learn to pace yourself to complete each section within the time limits. If you've studied the subjects sufficiently you shouldn't feel very rushed by the time.

Good luck with it!

Get the ARCO 6th Edition Master the Military Flight Aptitude Tests Book. This did wonders for me along with the gouge that you can find on this site as well. It worked.

Get the Marine ASTB Gouge - The one with the Hornet on the cover. That one is invaluable. I'd also consider picking up the ARCO book, its got a lot of good practice questions. Both of these have been mentioned.

In addition, I'd browse boating rules and nomenclature. I distinctly recall answering questions about these topics. If I remember correctly, there were also a one or two questions about the space program and Naval aircraft.

The best thing you can probably do, however, is to get proficient at the spatial apperception portion. Playing around with flight sims can help, but get to the point where you can answer them accurately in about 10 seconds per question. It helped me to devise a system in which I first determined attitude - climbing, descending, level, then angle of bank - left, zero, right, and finally heading - out to sea, towards land, parallel.

Best of luck.

contains everything you need. The guides from Baron and Arco are also a must. This site contains lots of gouges to the aviation and nautical portions as well. Good luck. The information is out there just study until hurts and then study some more.
