ranking in OCS

I have a friend who went through the Marines about 10 years ago and becasue he finished first in his OCS class was commissioned as a 1st Lt as opposed to the rest of his class as 2nd Lt.

Does the Navy have anything like this? Are there class rankings at OCS that actually have any bearing on anything or is it just make sure you finish? I was also wondering if this (OCS) had any bearing on your ranking down the line in pilot training. Thanks.

Actually, wouldn't someone with a master's degree or similar experience in the service be commissioned with a "comparable" salary of that of other professionals? I know my father was DC (6-wk wonder) into the rank of LTjg after he was picked up by the MSC after he finished his master's degree in 1972...

DCO is completely different then OCS. Those guys are restricted line, and generally doing something for the Navy that they are already qualified for in the Civ. world (e.g. Doctors.)

The only thing that would change how much you get paid is if you were an O-1E (prior service).

Nothing would change your rank.. everyone is an 0-1, and nothing that happens at OCS matters when you walk out of the church.

Surprised no one mentioned that Staff Judge Advocate's get time in service credit's for Law School, so as soon as they finish JAG school up in god know's where post TBS, they pick up 1stLt, and then ~6 months after that, they pick up Captain, pretty sure it's the same with doctors.
