Reapplying for BDCP

So what is considered "improving your package" when reapplying for BDCP? Does completing courses in your degree plan without necessarily increasing your GPA count? If not what kind of increase would it take. How about flight hours would 10 - 20 hours more than the 50 you have be an improvement? I know retaking the ASTB is an option but a gamble if you have decent scores already. Any advise from those that have reapplied would be great. Thanks

I would say raising your GPA would help, and it's definitely in your control. Chugging along with the same GPA just shows progress towards your degree, and let's face it, graduating from college is relatively easy. Plus, the farther you get into your college career, the tougher it is to raise your GPA. Good luck.

Adding flight hours is not necessarily seen as improving your package. Many applicants seem to think the boards put a heavy emphasis on prior flight time and ratings. I think this is a major misconception. I am not saying flight hours are worthless for selection, but they don't compensate for other weaknesses.

Prior flight time may help you in primary (see other debates), but it isn't a major selection point.

My advice would be to concentrate on your GPA, your ASTB, and your leadership roles. Unless you feel that your current ASTB score was lucky, study hard and retake it. If you really want to try to focus on flight hours, try getting involved in CAP or some other program that incorporates service and leadership as well as log book time. The Navy likes applicants who excel at school, but they really like to see applicants who do well in school while being active in their communites.

Note that this applies to the Navy only. For the Air Force, civilian ratings are more important, and for the Marine Corps, PT scores are very important.
