Retake the ASTB or submit my package??

Hey, I am fairly new to this site and just recently I took my first stab at the ASTB. My scores were nowhere near what I expected to get and here they are: 4/5/5 and OAR=48. Very average! As far as my package goes, I have a 3.41 GPA in Electrical Engineering and I don't really know anyone to obtain a good reference from so basically I will just have a few professors. Should I submit the package as it stands or retake the ASTB, and then submit my package? Also, I used study guides like Barron and searched around on google to prepare for the test. I studied well and did not blow the test off or assume that I would do good without studying. However, I really struggled with the Aviation/Nautical Info. section as well as the Aviation supplemental part of the test (the last 2 sections of the ASTB) as I had to guess on atleast 60% of those questions. Does anyone know where I can find good aviation information, either books or websites that deal with questions such as those?

Why not just submit and retake? There's nothing wrong with testing the waters with what you have (although it's a bit below average score)..and just study for a retake. The Navy likes to see persistence.

What are you applying for? If I were you, regardless I would submit it and see what happens. Your GPA is good and that helps. I got selected with a 49 and there are people that have gotten selected in the high 30's. It depends on the board and what the rest of your package looks like. In the meantime I would continue to study. If you dont get selected the first time, retake and submit again. Good luck!

for aviation info, get this book!
http://www.gleim.com/aviation/private/books/

Its a private pilot study guide with every single question out of the 900 or so questions in the FAA's private pilot written exam. If you study that book cover to cover and read up on all the gouge you can find here, you should be in REALLY good shape.
On top of that, if you get SNA/SNFO, once you get to IFS, it'll help you!

For nautical info, the gouge you find around here will be good!

oh and just for good measure, JP-5 pipes are purple!

good luck bro!

ah nice, good luck!
you should get the book either way.. it was an invaluable resource during my private pilot training, so it should be REALLY useful in IFS too!

Dane I had the same problem with the test. I tested back on January 4th, and had alot of trouble with the aviation/nautical information. I have been reviewing alot of blogs online, and gathering as much gouge information as possible. I also picked up both ARCO books for my OAR and military flight. Let me know how you make out. Never settle!!!

Kidday you really know pilots that were selected with high 30's??? That makes me feel alot better about myself, I got a 4/4/4 43. I am aiming for a 50+ and 6s on my second test. Any information would help.

Thanks guys
