A CAL FIRE S-2T tanker crashed in California, no word on the pilot. Thoughts and prayers.

I just saw the report this morning. I certainly hope and pray our mutual CalFire friend is all snug and safe in his be this morning.

Bummer. Flew a SMF-DFW leg over the area just before this happened. It looked like a small fire. Not much smoke at the time. We didn't even know they were working it.

One of the 4 common denominators for fatalities in the wildland fire environment is "on relatively small fires or deceptively quiet areas of large fires." It's sad when this kind of tragedy happens on what seems like such a minor or small incident. Sadly, it happens in that setting more often than one would think.
