Scores from Version 5

I just got my scores back from version 5...

AQR: 5
PFAR: 6
FOFAR: 5
OAR: 49

I'm a little worried becuase my LT said that those scores are good, but not good enough to be competative for pilot.

Does anyone know the algorythim for selection or is it solely on a case-by-case basis?

I have 150 civilian flying hours and a 3.2gpa. I also served as Vice President of SGA for my school and I'm debating on retaking test or not.

Does anyone know if it seems like I would be competative?

Honestly it's a case by case basis...some people will get a pilot slot with your ASTB while others won't. They really take the whole person into account when reviewing the application package...GPA, letters of rec, motivation statement, experience. It's also a real balance with your GPA too; a higher GPA/ASTB compensates for a low ASTB/GPA. From what I've seen, the 'competitive' ASTB scores for pilot slots seems to be OAR 55+, and at least 6's and 7's. That's just from what I've seen.

Thanks for the info. I know where I screwed up on the test. I know my math needs improving and when I got to the spatial appreciation section it looked completely different than the ARCO book. Right now I'm taking 5 summer classes so I have no extra time to study for the ASTB so when this semester is over I'm gonna hit the books for a retake. Congrats on your selection.

One more thing, if I get a pro-req what kinds of tests come next? I've heard a few people talk about getting a pro-req but then they weren't actually selected.

I think that your PFT score will ultimately decide your fate toward becomming a pilot. I have a degree in Aero Engineering, a 9 8 9 ASTB but my PFT is only 270 and I haven't been accepted. Plus I'm old as hell (26) which doesn't help. To answer your question, there is no "algorithm" to who is accepted. Its pretty much case by case. I could be wrong though. I would continue to study and retake the test. It can only help you. Good luck.

Millington doesn't care what you get on your PRT when you're going for your final select as long as you meet the minimum standards (The Navy doesn't use it as selection criteria like the USMC does...as long as you pass you're good to go). After you get your pro-rec, all you do is your PRT, MEPS, EPSQ, and get your other FINDOCS in like birth certificate, SSN photocopy, etc. The majority of those who don't get the final select after pro-rec is because they're found Not Physically Qualified (NPQ) at MEPS. Anyway the most important thing to remember about the final select is to be patient...the wait sucks for a lot of people, usually it's about 3-4 weeks but it can also go on for months...luckily I only had to wait 2 weeks. For me, the wait for the final select was definitely more stressful than the wait for pro-rec because you feel so close to your dream. Anyways, that's my 2 cents.

Thanks for all the info guys... I think I'll take the advice and retake the test in late July. With some better scores and all my flying hours I'm hoping things swing in my favor. Thanks again and good luck.
