So this is interesting: SECDEF told Congress yesterday he plans to forward-deploy "additional Air Force assets" in Australia, including B-1s and "surveillance aircraft" (meaning Global Hawks?).

Probably more in the nature of a permanent det site, kind of like the Marines in Darwin, but still. Mr Carter seems serious about this "all up in China's grill" strategy.

They also mention Air Force going back to former Clark/Cubi Point. What fun that would be.

Probably related to a larger push to more directly 'engage' China on its claims to the South China Sea and surrounding areas along with providing some reassurance to our allies, friends and acquaintances in the region who are afraid that we are not as engaged as we should be in that region.

Both places aren't what they used to be in both people and structure. It's changed especially due the recent shenanigans of the Marine that allegedly killed the hooker in Olongapo. Cubi Point O club looks like a bomb went off in it.
