Selected for SNA, but No OCS Date

Hey all, I got selected for the May board & didn’t receive an OCS date.

I was notified May 20th & went in to sign & accept that selection letter the same day (not final select letter, the preliminary one). My recruiter has been on top of things & we have great communication, but he says that he hasn’t received an actual ship out date for me yet.

Just wondering if it’s normal? anyone else is experiencing this? Is it because flight school is all backed up?

I’m trying to be patient but it’s been 7weeks with nothing so far. In the meantime I’ve been proactive w/PT & swimming/water confidence training. Just trying to get my mind & body right for when I get the call 🤷🏻‍♂️

Any help would be appreciated! & yes I did use the search bar. 😅

I went to OCS a few years ago but there were a few weeks between being notified that I was selected for OCS and receiving a class date. Most aviation selects attend OCS classes in the beginning of the fiscal year to offset the glut of Academt/ROTC Ensigns arriving in Pensacola in the summer.

My recruiter gave me the option to sign a letter to attend OCS as soon as possible if someone with a class date couldn't attend that class. If you have that option, make sure you stay in good physical shape and know that you could be headed to Newport with only a few days notice.

Yes, this does happen. Sounds like you have a good recruiter so I defer to them for providing guidance / mentorship during the next stages of the process.

Not really. NROTC and USNA SNA and SNFO types stagger when they report to Pensacola. They all don't just report in May-June.

This happened to me in ‘21-‘22 time frame. Also had a good recruiter communicating. It took time but I got a date eventually.

It was around eleven months, but tons of variation from year to year what the delays are and where they put them in the pipeline so don’t necessarily expect that timeline

BLUF: it's perfectly normal, the wait time may vary tho

I got selected on the OCT22 "murder" board, and was slated to ship sometime in August/September of 2023. My recruiter called me on my lunch break sometime in April and said "hey man, there are a few open spots for the class starting in May, you good with that?" to which I said yes. Other people I've talked to said their recruiter had them slated to go right after selection, others had an even longer wait (up to and including a full year)

From what I've seen, all the classes at the beginning of the fiscal year are all heavily front-loaded with aviation peeps. My original OCS class was mostly SWOs, SWO Nukes, and Sub Nukes; the class I graduated with and the ones immediately before and after us were more than 50% aviators.

I don't think flight school being backed up has anything to do with the wait (as far as I know). Flight school is more or less always backed up for various reasons, just means you get more time to go to Seville study for NIFE

It just seems that way, SWO, Aviation and Nukes make up the majority of people sent to OCS as they are the largest designators. There are some variations, for instance June-August there are more than the average number of nukes sent to OCS since those that were going to college have just graduated and are ready to go.
