I was just wondering if anyone can explain the different steps in the selection process and what they mean on the way to final select? Any clarification would be appreciated.

Well, there is tons of information on this site regarding the process. Search is your best friend. www.usnavyocs.com has good stuff too. Your recruiter should also help you with any questions, but may only be concerned about the next step and not getting ahead of yourself.

If you need clarification, ask a specific question, otherwise you are asking someone to write a book.

Well there can't be that many steps. You take the ASTB and submit your package. Then I've heard the term pro-rec'd (whats that), then is final select after that if you were to be selected?

From what I have heard, a pro rec is a professional recommendation by the boards for approval. From there, depending on how your recruiter handled your packet, you would submit your prt, and meps and that would then determine your final select. Some recruiters (like mine) had me do everything before submitting. I did the application, epsq, then prt, then astb, then meps. Some do the app and astb, wait for pro rec, then submit the rest. Some people take longer then others. I have taken a little over a year and a half to get it all in and am going to the July boards.

The big step is getting the pro rec, because that's where most people get cut. After that, about the only thing that can keep you from getting final select is a medical problem.

Please use the search function on this website, it is there for a reason, no one wants to write what has been written a thousand times before!!

Lovin' life....
Pro-rec comes from the board, Final select comes from the CO of Recruiting. You are a final select when you have an OCS date and a welcome aboard package in hand.

MSkinsATC...If you don't want to respond to a question on here, you don't have to. There isn't anyone twisting your arm here. This is a forum. Forums are to ask and answer questions. Get over it.

He's just trying to keep you from getting flamed on for not using the search function to find some of your answers. Guys don't want to answer the same questions over and over again so they expect you to use the search function. It gets really repetitive and its counterproductive when other people use the search function if you don't. Pull up the search bar, but to answer your question:

Pro-select you are pretty much in, you just have to pass the PRT, MEPS, and have no financial problems

Final-select it is a done deal, they give you an OCS date and you're "in".
