Service Assignment

I was talking to my advisor about service assignment and he told me that ASTB scores are only used as a tie breaker now. Ex. Two MIDN with identical stats except for ASTB scores, the one who did better on the test gets SNA. He also said that there's no adjustment for engineers anymore. This conflicts with what the sticky above is telling me and I'm just seeking some clarifactation.

I'm concerned because I have good ASTB scores but only a mediocre GPA in Mechanical Engineering.

What good does being concerned do? Keep up the hard work in school (Mech E isn't an easy major) and don't worry about the things you can't control. My guess is that things will work out, but if they don't, then you gave it your best shot. Basically, get used to not having your mind at ease about what the Navy has in store for you....you will be tearing your hair out in flight school if you don't learn to let stuff like this go to a large extent. Hope that helps

And for what its worth, keep in mind that gouge on AW could be outdated...

Your instructor probably has the latest information from BUPERS / Pensacola... He may be wrong, but it's far more likely that AW sticky posts are out of date.

mikwat,
Since you been in the NROTC, do you have specific knowledge of ANYONE not getting aviation that had it as their first choice?

When I was an NROTC instructor, I had a 100% selection rate for those with qualifying score and were physically qualified. DON'T sweat it!

Didn't that happen to Rufio just this past year? Or am I thinking of someone else on this board?

We had someone last year who had aviation as their first choice and didn't get it. I wouldn't say it is 100%, but I still wouldn't sweat it too much.

Rufio is now a SWO, he was PQ with SNA #1 IIRC. I could call him, but being a shoe, he'll still be at work for another 5 hours or so. (I've been home for an hour, and I live 30 min further away from work than him :D)

True.

He was also at a very big NROTC unit, and although I dont know for sure, I think that has something to do with it... I have a feeling that NETC in Pensacola told UT that they could only have so many pilot slots...
