No. Unless you can run it from a ship without being able to communicate with anyone.

Bad Idea Jeans. I've met a few guys who tried enterprises, and even if you're bored now, the RAG and deployments will take care of your spare time spiffy-quick. These were the guys who were sweating their investment properties or whatever on cruise as well.

If you've got too much money, then start socking it away in IRA's and CD's and play with it when you're on shore duty. If you've got too much time, become a volunteer firefighter or read to blind kids or something.

I recommend golf and beer. And I have what you would call high entreprenurial spirit. I just know how life is on the other side of the training command (and strangely I still long for it).

Get some hobbies - there's no reason to be bored.

Like women chasing or bar fighting? Play a little game with your buddies, called who got the burner, where everyone goes out, and hooks up with a chick, then the next day reconvene before you do it again, to see which one had to go get penicillin.

Or you could take up bike riding, hiking, poker, bowling, collecting baseball cards, the possibilities are endless...

My wife runs her own business, part-time from home. It's not intensive and she loves it. PM me and I can give you more info.

Whatever you do, DO NOT become the guy who makes every flight a 3.5 hour sales seminar for Amway/PamperedChef/Tupperware/etc..

There were a couple of those types I have flown with in the past, and it makes for a long, PAINFUL flight.

MB - Once you mark those guys probably be good to add something to the brief like, "One fXXXing word about that crap your wife sells and we're goin' home!"

Some good buying opportunities out there in real estate right now (no, I'm not talking about flipping stuff). I picked up a few rental properties a few years ago, in a market I had done my homework on, and they have been great. A rental manager is essential and worth every penny - she takes care of everything and if she ever needed to run something by me I've never not been able to get back to her through e-mail. Long term investment though.

Finding a good rental manager is what usually had guys up nights tearing their hair out, though. There are more than a few guys in the Navy nowadays who got into rental properties during the boom and lost their hat, ass and overcoat.

As vick says, though, that stuff is long-range and you won't have the time, energy or money to fuck around with it once you start deploying. Becoming an Amway whore is one of the quickest ways to lose friends in the squadron (and potentially get in some ethics trouble if you start pushing it on the E's - it's happened).

If you've got a little time and cash to play with right now, sign up for e*trade or something and play the market a bit. Lots of bargain stocks out there these days. As always, though, Vegas rules: don't put up more than you can afford to lose, and know when to walk away from a losing table.

Best stock move I ever made, convincing the ex to take $12k in GM stock vice $10k in cash (that I didn't have).. But she never cashed it out before the market crashed..

Small victories!
