silly question about motivational statement

So I am writing up my motivational statement (Navy OCS) now and I have kind of a stylistic question. When I wrote my college and graduate school application essays I wrote with a little humor and that seemed to go a long way. Is that acceptable on the OCS application or is this not the time to joke around?

thanks for any input.

I would show personality but remember you only have 400 words, don't waste them. You are trying to sell yourself and they are trying to get to know you via words so BE SPECIFIC. For instance instead of saying "I work hard and am responsible for my actions.", use a specific example from your personal life. That's how I approached it.

Personally, I'd say no....I used to write some very funny papers that used satire to get my point across in college....but thats because in college being artistic to render a point is acceptable, not so much in a professional environment where your leadership could be called to question over a matter of a not-so-well-received stab at humor.

Just my opinion though....play it safe I'd say

Don't think so much into it.

My only advice for motivational statements is simply speak from your heart. Meaning just tell them why you want to be a Naval Officer and what it means to you. Basically just be yourself, as long as it's not off color humor i'm sure a little wouldn't hurt. It took me about a half hour from start to finish for my statement. You shouldn't have to think too hard about it, just make sure your grammar is spot on.

I agree its a little risky but it does give your statement a personal signature that may help your name be remembered. I wouldn't search for humor, but if the opportunity arises to weave something quick and not controversial/dirty, I'd consider it.
