Just curious, why are there so many flight slots, a third or more in rescent ocs/tbs classes. Anyone have anything more indepth than 'they need pilots'? My question is why.
Thanks

The Marine Corps base their slots on future needs. So the guys that are going to OCS today will not be winging until 2007 or later.

Does anyone think the push for air contracts right now has anything to do with the addition of 2 new aircraft in the near future? (Osprey, JSF)

Bottomline is noone here knows why I dont think HQMC knows for sure sometimes there are lots of slots sometimes not as many. They try to predict OCS attrition(around 20-30%), TBS attrition (rare but it does happen) and flight school attrition (counting everything at every stage I think it is around 30%)
They are basically trying to cover the spread.

I wouldn't put the terms "JSF" and "near future" in the same sentence.

The JSF will reduce the overall number of slots as it replaces AV-8s and F-18s.
