I am applying for the PLC program this summer and everything looks good so far except for one problem. I have a charge of underaged drinking in the state of PA. In PA Underaged drinking is a summary offence, which translates to less than a misdemenor. Will this effect my quest for the wings of gold? Please help, Thanks.

Have you contacted an OSO? If not, try to touch base with one first and discuss your concerns.

DUI is the kiss of death I'm told for officers. If it's just underaged drinking, then the OSO will probably have to get a waiver for you. I admitted to smoking pot once and the OSO got me a waiver and I was good to go. I just had to write an essay describing the circumstances. It may be harder for you though, since you were actually caught and charged with an offense.

Just tell your OSO, underage drinking is nothing to worry about as far as getting accepted to OCS.

I really hope that it isn't. I don't know if I'll have to get a waiver or not but my OSO said it wouldn't matter. I thought he was just telling me this to get me into the PLC, then only to find it would keep me from flight school. I should find out if I will need a waiver soon. Thanks for your help.

If underage drinking was a disqualifier, than you would probably have to kick out 90% of the Marines in the Corps.......

Totally!! I month before I shipped to boot camp (I was 18) I got caught with some beer and charged with MIP (minor in possesion(of alcohol)), it ended up costing me $100. The recruiters didn't think it was a big deal. It would have been a big deal if I wouldn't have said anything and went on to boot camp. When I applied for PLC I put it on that legal sheet everyone has to fill out and the OSO said no big deal, no waiver. The thing is, they want to see if you're hiding anything from them.

Oh, by the way, the cop who caught me with the beer and issued me the ticket was my DAD. I still have that ticket and at one time thought about framing it .

your dad busted you? harsh dude.... i guess that one is a little better than if he had cited you for soliciting a prostitute. imagine trying to get a waiver for that.

Why do I confess these things to you sodbusters: I was arrested and also charged with underage drinking at age 18. No DUI was involved. Confess to your OSO and don't hide it. Frumby

Same here.... Went down to Port Aransas for springbreak when I was 19. How was I to know that TABC (Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission) was doing a little extra beach patrolling that year? The sumbitch ended up costing me some money, but no worries. I still went on a couple years later to get my commission. Just let your OSO know; it'll be alright... promise.
