For anyone that has taken the ASTB recently (last month or so), are they still using the old WWII planes or the solid black jets that I see in some guides.

I'm taking the ASTB in a month and the solid jets bust my balls, but the WWII planes are really easy (for me).

Thanks in advance.

What are you using to study off of.

The ASTB I took (and you will probably take) had a T-34 and they were tougher than the ACRO book that I used to study off of.

I did fine (57 7/8/8), but I also have prior flight experience, which made it easy.

Just about everyone study guide that is out there. :)

I don't have a problem per se with the spa app, I mean you just gotta have a system like out to sea, banking right, nose down, etc. then just eliminate the obvious ones, then pick between the two left.

I just have one study guide where the plane is solid black, so it's harder to distinguish some features.

But if it is a T-34 I guess I will be OK. Unless it's the T-34 Russian tank, then I'll be like WTF?! ;)

OK, I looked back in my notes and it is the Cliff Notes study guide that has the solid planes, every other guide has the non-filled in T-34s or old WWII planes.

Otherwise that guide seems pretty good.

Did anybody use a different study guide that was better prep for the actual ASTB?

The main thing out there is the ACRO book, but that is for an earlier set of tests. I found it helpful for the Mechanical Comprehension portion of the test and a 'basic' prep for the Spatial Appreciation portion.

There are two study guides that are aviable online, which mainly help with Mechanical Comprehension, Math, and the Aeronautical and Naval Part of the test.

The one thing that I had trouble with and wish I had gone back and done was the Reading Comprehension portion. For that there is no 'Navy' study guide, but if you got your hands on an ACT prep book and did the reading test that is inside that should help resharpen the skills necessary to get a good score.

Remember too, getting a 9/9/9 on the ASTB is great, but getting score less than these doesn't mean the end of the world, a good GPA can help in offsetting scores that might be 'average' however, that is for the board to decide.

Just sharpen up the skills that you think you are the weakest on; mine was math and mechanical comprehension.

They save the identification of hostile armor for the Army
