I was on duty the other night, watching baseball and trying to find some fools number for some other fool in the squadron that couldnt find his cell phone, when the SDC looked at the aircrew wings on my chest and asked if I was in "air traffic control" before I embarked in my new proffesion. After a brief and triumphant effort to suppress my chuckle he found out that I was indeed bred from the same path as he. In that instant he wanted to know more about commissioning programs and if what he was doing was right. Young motivator has been going to college at night after his work day (he's a tweak in the F-18 community..can't be that easy) and had a ton of questions. I gave him the address to this website, I feel that it has some information and should have more for our young enlisted Marines than what it offers right now. I'll never be an advocate of encouraging young Marines that a path to aviation supercedes a path to commission, but I do believe this forum could help answer some serious questions. We all know there are only two types of mustangs... the extremely good and the extremely bad. This forum may help alleviate some of this.

That's awesome. I know a lot of hard charging NCOs that would be great mustangs and who wish to know more about it, but the path is obscured by their day to day activity. For most, it's not that they're swamped in work, but that they're so focused on their tasks that they simply stop caring about some of the options that are out there. I found that my best help for practical matters were the mustangs in the squadron. Good idea on beefing up the info for mustang wannabes. I'll take a look at it a bit later and see what I might be able to contribute.

I'm all for this, but I don't see it happening until they show up and start asking questions. We have a few enlisted Marines on the board and they ask good questions about what they should (not) be doing but don't seem too interested in getting wrapped up in all the divorce threads so their names aren't as well known.

I joined when I was a SSgt waiting to go to MECEP Prep. Since then I've used the info I found on here and tried to preach the gospel of MCO 1560.15L (google MECEP and you'll find a thread on this site about it). A few weeks ago, somebody approached me asking questions about MECEP so I gave him copies of my application and sent him to the site. I have no doubts that if he asked a question everybody would help him out, but I haven't seen any new threads about enlisted to officer programs so apparently he hasn't joined.

It's not that the members of AW don't care about helping out Marines, but in this case, we have to find some horses before we can try to make them drink.

Yeah, they may not be a MasterBates, but I think we can generally get them some good information before the thread takes off on a jack. I usually give it about 10 posts or so until someone says something whacky or starts talking about sea animals.
The most outstanding recent exception to this would probably be Son of a Grunt's thread, which was pretty much threadjacked before you could say 'homeschool'.

I'm pretty sure you missed what I was getting at.

Cliff's Notes version of my previous post:
Good idea, but it's hard to provide answers to unasked questions.

Sad, but true...

Seriously, the contents of this thread are a severe let down compared to the title.
