Minor threadjack: At time t=18 in the video, you get a good look at an interesting rail setup above the pilot's head. There's no comparable setup in the back. It seems like it would definitely interfere in an ejection scenario, so it must come off with the canopy. Haven't seen it on other SU-27 models, but I also haven't ever looked that hard either. HMS sensor mount?

In any event, you can get a good sense just how big a plane it is.

(Unclass speculation only, please...)

The view from the back of the Su-27 looks pretty good for trunkmonkeying it. It's too bad for those guys and their families, rolling pulls are bad juju for planes and people. q

Looks to me just like they mis-judged their altitude -- as the airplane is disappearing behind the trees the nose looks to be at a pretty high AOA with the vector still headed downhill. In other words, somebody is still pulling on the pole to try and get the airplane climbing away from the dirt.

GLOC, probably not.

Alright, we don't need to start swapping crash vids here. If we can have a cogent discussion about what went wrong and how NOT to have something like that happen to us, then there's a purpose behind the thread.

Otherwise all you're doing is commenting on what are essentially snuff films. We don't need a pointless thread about fellow aviators buying it.
