Hey guys...

I know it is a little early, and everyone is worrying about finals, but I thought I would throw out this great internship opportunity. Office of Naval Research has labs across the country in every field of study and the pay is great... $5500 for 10 weeks. Can't beat it.

I was looking at that before online and my advisor and me were trying to find something that would be beneficial to me becaue of my career choice, what sucks is my University isn't eligible even though my state is right next door. Why are some schools eligible and others are not.

Ya know, I'm not sure about that. You could apply even though you aren't on one of those school, pick the closest one? and maybe give an explanation.

If you compare that list of eligible schools to the NROTC list of universities, they are very similar. Coincidence?

They have all sorts of stuff... everything from computer engineering to aviation and weapons development. Pretty much anything that Office of Naval Research does, it is possible to get involved with.

Last summer, in keeping with my fire protection engineering, I worked at NRL-DC in the damage control section. We had some pretty interesting and groundbreaking projects. I even got to do a little work on the new LCS idea. I had a friend down at Indian Head who worked on a new shell for the 5" guns that CGs and DD(G)s have; so there is really no limit.

Let the fun times roll!
I checked into this opportunity (I'm currently unemployed) and thought, hey, this might work out for me, since I'm joining the Navy anyway. I talked to the lady who filters through the applications today. If you've been out of school less than a year, they'll consider you. Unfortunately for me, I graduated over 5 years ago...

It takes a few seconds to fill out... there is no harm. I am only going to accept internships in cool places this coming summer. I dont really need the money, and my time would be just as well spent PTing all day and night before OCS.

I'll be seeing you on 30July05 Cracker.

Hey Vette how much leeway do they give you off of your major, I'm majoring in Agricultural Biotechnology and would like to do something with planes.

What happens is, you can have your resume sent to every lab... they pour through all their applicants, and select the ones they are interested in. Then they give offers from the top down until they fill their slots.

I got offers from 3 labs last year, but that is because my major is Fire Protection Engineering, and there are 3 labs that work in fire.... Surface Warfare Ctr, NRL-DC and Indian Head. I chose DC cause they sounded the best...

So honestly... chances of you getting aviation are slim to none.

Very good observation, I just got done talking to the lady about the internships and she told me that it is only with University with NROTC and then they were streched from there to cross-town colleges. She said she is trying to make them change it, but right now they are strict on that policy.
