Supply Officer Recruitment Guidance

Hello friends,
I have been looking into joining the military and after careful consideration believe that the Navy is the right fit. I currently work in administration for healthcare, but more on the business aspect of things (I have an MBA and a MS-Healthcare Management). There are no officer positions available for Healthcare Admin currently, so I want to go in as a Supply officer since that is part of my current job scope for the hospital where I work. I am very passionate and motivated to join and will do so at any cost to serve my country.

I would appreciate any advice for someone who is brand new to the process. I am just about ready to do my MEPS, but need to lose a few lbs. If I'm a little over the required weight would that be an issue going in as an officer? As Cartman says, "I'm just big boned!" jk, but I probably have heavy bones/muscle.

I am also a 35 year old woman (never married/no kids) so I am not your average recruit. Let's just say, I grew up in a very strict household and finally have the freedom to pursue my goals, and one of them has always been serving my country. It's the greatest honor, and I have so much respect for our veterans.

Making Recruiting Great Again

Welcome to the page. The new guy, or in your case “new gal” posts are discouraged and there’s already a ton of information around the forums at your disposal.

Take the time to search around and learn more about supply corps, the OCS application process, OAR study info, and OCS prep. If you have questions, use the search function, 99% chance it’s been asked and answered before multiple times.

Good luck!

Not necessarily an issue, but if you don’t pass the initial PRT at OCS, you’ll roll into the holding class and spend an extra few weeks there until you can pass. So it’s in your best interest to get started ASAP

Are you trying to go active or reserves? Your post is in the reserve forum but it sounds as if you are trying to go active.

Thank you so much! This is the answer I was looking for but could not find on other posts.

Reserve. Ideally, I would want to do active, but for now, reserve until I can get my bearings.
Reserve looks for relevant experience in the designator you are applying to often for many years. I would look at what supply does and see if it aligns with what you are doing now.

If you want to go active apply active don't apply reserve as there are many hoops to jump through to go from reserve to active.
