Supply Program

I was just wondering if anybody knew about my chances getting into the supply officer program. Is the Navy pretty short of them? I have a 3.73 GPA, prior service in the Army, Transportation and Logistics Major, 24 years old, got references from a chief, and my bosses from work. Do I really need a high ASTB score to have a really good chance of getting Pro Rec?

As far as the ASTB score, you need to have a reasonably competitive score. As to what a competitive score is, you'd have to ask your recruiter as that changes alot.

The fact that you were a logistics bubba in the army can help you out a little.

Again, the best person to talk to about how competitive you are and what kind of ATB scores you need is a recruiter.

Good luck.

Cheers,
Bubba

Ya, you sound like a vey good candidate, ASTB aside. For the last couple years the Navy has taken more Supply Corps guys then any other community. It is a community on the move. Lots of opportunities. See a recruiter, study hard for the ASTB and get an app in ASAP. Never delay an application. Program quotas can fill up and opportunity pass you by within a week. Good Luck.

Thanks Wink. I appriciate your response. I am taking my ASTB this Thursday and I am currently cramming right now. While back my recruiter told me that they are short on the supply corp guys. So I was just wondering. I do not think I need to be superb on the ASTB since my GPA is high and with prior service and a competitive degree in the supply field. I have been studying hard for the last 3 weeks and I am going to take it and see how I do.

I think you look great on paper, pal. Very similar to my situation when I applied, except I was 22, no prior service, Management major. I scored a 52 on the ASTB, and got in with not quite as strong a package as the one you will be submitting. Get that test taken, and join my in the Supply Corps!

The future of the Supply Corps
If the amount of people the Supply Corps has been picking up is any indication, I would say that currently, yes, they must be short, because they've been taking more people than any other designator. That's why I'm encouraging you to hop on the shuttle with us now, because if you're wanting to do it, now definitely seems like the opportune time.

When the current crop of OCs make it through their respective training periods, I am thinking the Supply Corps will be bulging with JOs, but who knows...gotta figure in attrition, transfers, retirement/separation, all that jazz. As many of the guys here will tell you, the needs of the Navy is a living, breathing organism, and is one of the few things in life that is genuinely constantly changing, sometimes right before one's very eyes.

As long as you've grabbed and have been using the study gouge on here, and are decent at basic applied mathematics, science, and logic (which is honestly what the reading portion is more like, not so much reading comprehension, more like "process of elimination" type reading, at least when I took it a year ago), you'll do fine. Let's put it this way: I hadn't even found this site yet, didn't know there was ANY study material for the ASTB (I didn't know about the ARCO guides and other stuff you could get at bookstores), and did pretty well. Had I gotten a leg up with the material here, I'd have done even better, I'm sure, if for no other reason than I would have known what to expect.

You'll do fine. Go in there and rock it, and come join the Chop Shop. :D

Thanks Metro. That has encouraged me a lot. I am going to use these next 2 days to study and review and will take the ASTB this Thursday. I will post my feelings about the test after I took it and I will also post my scores when they get back. Thanks again for the help and encouragement.
