Supply with the marines

Hey guys,
I've been interested in joining the marines for a while and am really interested in supply/logistics. I read on the marines website you can do a few things with supply (aviation supply officer, ground supply officer, etc.).

First of all, before you are selected for OCS or PLC are told which community you have been accepted into?

Also is course required for supply in the marines still in Athens or did that move to Newport with the Navy as well?

Also how is life with supply in the marines? How does it compare with being a SUPPO in the navy?

I appreciate the help!

There are several things you can do supply/log-o related Marine wise. From what I remember, log-o was pretty sought after in terms of combat support MOS' at TBS. Supply, not so much. You can end up anywhere in either MOS. I have buddies who are Suppo's who are in the wing and others who at with Infantry units. Also have some Log-o buddies who are with the wing and others with CLB's and what not. Needs of the Corps my friend.

Bottom line, if your serious about joining, focus on getting accepted and prepping for OCS because in the end if you don't get past that there's no point in thinking about anything else. There are really no guarantee's as far as what you do before OCS. You either sign a ground or air contract and that's it. MOS comes at TBS.

As far as knowledge on the life Navy vs Marine. As a Marine you will be leading Marines. Is there a better life? Navy I can't speak on. Where the MOS school is, no idea.

Good luck

Constantly lost in the sauce....
I can assure you that if you are qualified to be a Marine officer and you want suppo out of TBS you will almost assuredly get it.... I was an enlisted supply Marine in my former life. The supp school for both enlisted and officers is on a small little base called Camp Johnson right next to Camp Lejuene. CMR's, fiscal, etc, etc... the Marine Corps is ran by supply, but I had ZERO intentions of going back, counting gear in a hot ass connex box just was not fulfilling to me for some reason..... It does give you real world job skills however and I'm sure it wouldn't be very difficult for you to get hired as a higher level manager in any part of the shipping industry or supply/logistics side of any major corporation. OP you have to be the first person I've ever heard to want supply coming into the Marine Corps lol to each his own however...

As mentioned before, you get your MOS assignment at TBS which comes after completion of OCS. Ground Supply school is at Camp Lejeune, NC and Aviation Supply school is now at Newport, RI. When I was in TBS, Ground Supply was pretty easy to get if you wanted it, but Aviation Supply slots were limited. I recommend browsing www.marineocs.com as it has some good MOS information

Logistics, i.e. getting Marines and supplies where they're supposed to be, is regarded fairly well. A good logistician is treated with a great deal of respect.

Supply, i.e. ordering, buying, and tracking parts and such, is no doubt a valuable and rewarding field of endeavor. However, the only time anyone notices supply is when the unit runs out of something.

As far as Navy v. Marines, there's the whole restricted line thing in the Navy. A supply officer in the Nav will spend the vast majority of his career doing just that. A supply officer or logistics officer in the Marines is unrestricted, and will be expected to do "B billets" outside his MOS. Additionally, both those MOSs will stovepipe with seniority, and they are eligible for many of the same commands, should they rise to that level.
