swimming expectation for nfo during indoc

What do the instructors expect of the NFOs performance during the first swimming test on the first week of indoc?

I am not that great of a swimmer. I can swim one round back and forth on a regular swimming pool slowly and with struggle. I also have a hard time treading on water. I can tread on water with struggle with my hands (my arms get tired, haven't learn how to use the feet yet).

Oh yeah, my OCS date is mar 03, this saturday. i didn't have that much time to prepare because i was just notified feb. 26.

You will need to pass the 3rd class swim test. That is basically just a few laps in the pool, and some dead mans float and treading water.

Aviators will continue to the pool for swim instruction twice a week for 4 or 5 more weeks. Don't sweat it.

Swim rocks get extra help. It may come out of what free time you have, but if you are willing to try, they will teach you..

I was never a great swimmer but comfortable in the water. I had some trouble with a few things and they just gave me some extra practice. They are very good at teaching this stuff and if you are just coachable and try, you will get it and do just fine. DO NOT WORRY-if you want to get through OCS, you will. The only people that have trouble are those who don't want to be there.

This is a much longer term fix, but to really get comfortable in the water, you could try looking at the Total Immersion swimming method (here and here). I don't think that will help you during OCS because it takes a long time to start getting it, but once you do, you'll feel like a fish.
