I've applied fto the Navy twice and have been rejected.

I want to be an NFO. The other day, I got a call from a marine recruter abecause I had requesting info on their site because I have been thinking about maybe trying them instead since the Navy thing doesn't seem to be going to well for me. Anyway, I am applying again to the Navy this month, but if I get rejected again I think I want to apply to the marines. My question is is the marine board going to look down on me because I applied to the Navy first? Also, would it be possible to use the same LORs that I used for my Navy application for my marine application? I can use the same ASTB scores correct? I just really want to be an officer in the militaryand the Navy and Marines were my top choices... I just chose Navy first because I am female and was told that the Navy is a better place for females... but I really don't care that much if I have girls around or not...

Anyway, I hope someone can help me, I'm a little nervice about what the marine recruter is gonna say/think when I tell him I've already applied for the Navy... going on three times.

You should go for it. I am starting the process to be accepted in the Marines officers program. The reason I chose the marines among other reasons is because they are the only ones that can guarantee you a flight spot before you sign up. I am also a female and as a female you can not go into the fall class because it is only male, but you could go in Nov. or next June. It doesn't hurt to just go through the process. They will not look poorly on you because you were looking at the Navy first. GOOD LUCK!!!

I hope he isnt mad... but SPIN on this forum is now a 2nd Lt.with the Marines and couldnt be happier. He was rejected by the Navy and decided to give the Marines his best shot. Guess what, he was accepted and is now in TBS. He is my upmost motivation. I knock alot of people who dont want to be Marines first and foremost, but honestly... there are great Marines out there who probably never thought they would be Marines. GO FOR IT!!! Try for Marine NFO. What do you have to lose. They still train the same as the Navy. Yes, I am bias. I think the Marines are better. They are more proud and close knit than the other branches. If you are doing what you love you will be happy!!! I love the Marine Corps, and I hope I get the chance to be a part of it. I also love to fly and I would give my world to do it for them. Go Marines! -Reaper

Obviously you have a strong desire to be a military officer or you wouldn't have applied to the Navy three times. Here is the jig with the Navy: They look for specific college degrees with an emphasis on science and math. they also try to pigeon hole you into a career path based on your degree. Personal experience note, my wife spent six years in the Navy as a corpsman specializing in aviation medicine and aerospace physiology. She had a BS in exercise science and very high scores on ASVAB and ACT. She applied twice to the navy to become an aeorspace physiologist and was denied both times because she didn't hace enough trig and chem classes. Take it for what you will.

Marines just look at what kind of person you are and wether or not you have leadership potential. If you still want to be an officer, go talk to an OSO and get thingss moving. Unless you volunteer that you applied three times, no one will know. Furthermore, if you put together a strong pakage, even if they somehow found out, they wouldn't care. Good luck.

Once you start the application process for the Marines you will wonder what took you so long to be enlightened. By the time you get your app. package ready for the selection board, you'll want to be a Marine more than anything in the world - more than your desire to fly even. (That was my experience, anyways)

Thanks guys! I was really nervice about it, but it looks like it's a good idea! :) I'll probably give the marine recruter a call this week! I'm excited!

well i got pro rec'd for nfo last year for the navy, and i turned them down. thinking that maybe more pilots slots would open up after 6-8 months...boy was i an idiot. so i started my packet for the marines...it's mostly complete now, my problem is that i'm a terrible runner...which is basically the hardest part of the pft. i'm 220 and about 8-10% body fat...i need to lose a ton of muscle weight, which sucks cause it took such hard work to put on...but ehh...whatever...sorry about my rambling, i'm not even sure why i posted now...lol

good luck!

Haha, I'm actully a good runner. I ran cross country and track all through hs and frosh year in college. I ran a 11:58 two mile in hs... don't know if I could do that now.... but I can still run ;) How far do you have to go for pft for marines??

hum... I did 3.1 in 19:01 in hs... but is that the time for girls??? I feel like there's maybe 10 girls in the whole state that can run that fast...

Just called my navy recruter... he said the NFO spots are closed right now... he said he'd get back to me on for how long... so looks like the marine recruter should be hearing from me Thursday...

For women you can get the maximum 100 points for the run if you do the 3 miles in 21 minutes (it might be 22 minutes - but I know it isn't any lower than 21). All of the information on the PFT is in the application package you get from the OSO. It will tell you the proper form and what the requirements are.
