i just moved from Boston to Cape Canaveral (transferred schools so i could work on my licenses 'n ratings) and i was pretty much ready to sign my contract in boston, but the office down here recieved my application and information (along with my physical results, test scores, etc.) and they're giving me a hard time about a lot of things i need to change or add to my application before it goes in. it feels like they are a lot more strict here. i've heard that different offices will do things differently, but is there a chance they're giving me a hard time because i'm a transfer?

nothing i can't handle of course, but it's such a huge difference that i can't help but wonder.

...and if this is just the way they run this office, and different locations are known for running more strictly than others, will that influence my chances at all?

Same thing happened to me back when I was a wee applicant. I did all my processing at one OSO, which was located near my school, but not my parents house. After school let out I went back to live with my parents for the 4 weeks until OCS. Instead of shipping from the OSO by my school, I did a "courtesy ship" out of the OSO near my parents house. When the OSO I shipped with got my paperwork they said I needed to change a bunch of stuff. I spent one really late night completely filling out all my paperwork for shipping from scratch.

Not sure what was so wrong with my paperwork in the first place, but as you have heard, OSO offices will do things differently from one another. It wouldn't make sense for them to treat you in a prejudicial manner because you transferred from another OSO, and it especially doesn't make sense since they are doing the extra work to make sure you have your paperwork filled out correctly. Just be glad they are taking the time to make sure everything is filled out to their standards, and they aren't just passing your paperwork through without so much as a second glance.

yeah, different OSO's do handle things differently. i started at the OSO in columbia, SC near school, switched to Boston where my family lived, but then switched to the one here in Orange County, CA. they lost so much paperwork in the transfer too that it resulted in me missing the board for 187! so i'm headed to 188.

Technically you can talk to any OSO you want. Whether or not they will write you is a different story. I hope that helps.
