I recently that there is a difference in the 'quality' of the Goshawks used at Meridian vs those at Kingsville. Is there any truth to this? What determines where you end up, other than the usual blind luck?

Different? Meridian flies the T-45C and Kingsville flies the T-45A. The T-45C is newer and has a digital cockpit. That being said, Kingsville is getting their T-45C's. They have some Kingsville IUTs here at Meridian training.

Editted to say: Don't worry about it dude, you have a LONG time until you even get to that point.

Time to train is a big thing. Meridian has many more students than K'rock, I think about twice as many. The newer jets there are nice, but it takes a lot longer to get through because of the amount of guys up there and wx among other things. The jets in South Texas are older, but we are pushing guys through pretty quickly, I think the average is around 10 months. I spend all my time in the A, but I got a backseat ride in a C and it is quite a difference and very much improved. New jets=Meridian, faster to wings=Kingsville. My .02

BTW, which station you go to depends pretty much on open slots for students at either one. They have it planned out well in advance, as far as what you see in primary, its basically a crapshoot. They may give you some preference though.

368 days start to finish. 10 months is a little quick, unless you are a marine that they are trying to push through. I'd say average is about 12 months or so.

classed up April 12 of '04, finished the syllabus April 19, '05 (53 weeks exactly). most of the meridian guys I talked to on the boat det had been there for ~14 months and still had to do all of ACM (and they were figuring ~2 months for that)

It took me that long to completely explore the Bonita Lakes Mall. And I STILL haven't seen all of Hudson's.

I started in December of '04 and am pretty much on track to finish in Aug or Sept. That puts me at a 9-10 month time to train assuming I don't piss any big check rides away down here. I know squeeze knows the opso likes to push the sched pretty hard.

Ha yeah the "final push" can get real interesting, esp if you are in 21. 26 flights in 11 days to get us done, that was a great time....

it's all ebbs and flows man. half the time i figured i would never finish; the other half i thought there was no way i couldn't make the next winging. hurry up and wait is a science in the VTs. some weeks i would sit around doing nothing but standing watch, while another i would fly twice a day every day and fly through stages like tacforms or acm. it messes with your head. one day you think you'll never escape the rock, the next there's finally a light at the end of the tunnel.... and you bounce between the two regularly.
