Tail Hooks

Okay a Newbie question:
I am aware that carrier aircraft are equiped with beefed up tail hooks and undercarraige.
I am also aware that the F16 has a tail hook for emergency landings on a runway.
In a emergency could a F16 land on a carrier or would the hook be ripped off by the wires?
